Eufy by Anker is a decent brand when looking for a WiFi wireless security camera to monitor your home, office, or small business. The battery-powered camera category of the brand is one of the bestsellers on the market. But now, how long does it take to charge Eufy camera fully with a portable charger power bank?
In the Eufy cameras we’ve gone through, none of them suggest charging from a portable charger power bank. So, does this mean you can’t do it? If you can, does the portable charger power bank take long to recharge the Eufy camera?
What Type of Eufy Security Camera Do You Have?
At the time of writing, Eufy has about nine different models of battery-powered security cameras. Some of the cameras are same series, just with a few different features.
One of the distinguishing features between the various rechargeable Eufy security cameras is the type of battery the company has installed. And the different the battery packs, the different times they will also take to fully charge.
Sadly, Eufy doesn’t always mention the type of battery they have installed on their battery-operated security cameras. But with the time to go through the company website, the information about the batteries is still there.
Of course, many of us will also see this battery information and conclude it’s irrelevant. However, the information on the battery of your Eufy security camera can help you estimate how long it will take to charge. The higher the battery rating, the longer it will take to fully charge.
In any case, Eufy utilizes two main types of batteries for its line of rechargeable security cameras:
- 6700mAh lithium-ion battery
- 13400mAh lithium-ion battery
How Long Does It Take to Charge Eufy Camera?
First, charging the Eufy security camera is pretty straightforward. You’ll just need to connect the power cable to your security camera. Then, plug the other end of the cable into the power supply through the 5V/2A power adapter charger or Home base.
When charging, the status LED of most Eufy cameras is usually a solid red light, while others will be a blue light. If you check your camera on the mobile app, it will also show the battery status in charging mode.
After the Eufy security camera has fully charged, the LED status light will turn off. The battery icon on the mobile app will also show to be fully charged (with 100%).
Now, how long the Eufy camera will take to fully charge will depend on the kind of battery installed. If you’ve got EufyCam 2C or any other camera series with a 6700mAh lithium-ion battery, it should take 4 – 6 hours to fully charge in the right conditions.
On the other hand, the 13400mAh battery is about double the 6700mAh in capacity. And by simple maths, this would mean the EufyCam 3 and other security camera series with 13400mAh battery will take 8 – 12 hours to fully charge under normal conditions.
To charge the Eufy camera under “normal conditions” means charging:
- At the correct camera temperature of between 0℃(32℉) – 45℃(113℉)
- On the standard power output, with either a 5V/ 2A charger or the USB port at the back of the Homebase. The main power supply, i.e. the wall outlet you’ve plugged your charger or Home base should also have the proper, stable voltage.
- With the original charging cable (or a compatible replacement charging cable). It’s worth noting that there is usually a charging cable and a dedicated data (transfer) cable. Data cables don’t always charge devices, and when they do, it won’t be as fast as charging cables.
How Long Does It Take to Charge Eufy Camera with a Power Bank?
Similar to phones and tablets, you can comfortably charge Eufy cameras with a portable charger power bank. It’s not a lot of people who may have this idea. But a power bank can be excellent for charging your security camera in areas inaccessible to wired power without having to unmount.
How long it takes to charge the Eufy camera with a power bank will depend on the output and consumption (of the camera). If your power bank outputs 5V/ 2A (as per Eufy’s recommendation), it should be able to charge the security camera as fast as the recommended charger or Homebase.
Another thing, you should know the portable charger power bank can only share the juice it has. Or in other words, trying to charge your Eufy camera with a lower-capacity power bank won’t refill the battery fully.
For example, a 24,000mAh power bank can charge a 6700mAh-rated Eufy camera about 3 times or a 13400mAh-rated camera 1½times. But a 5000mAh power bank can only charge a 6700mAh-rated Eufy camera until around 70% or a 13400mAh-rated camera at about 35%.
Key Takeaway:
Most of the Eufy rechargeable security cameras are also compatible with the 9V/ 2A chargers. 9V/ 2A charger is almost double the standard 5V/ 2A, meaning it will cut the charging time by almost half.
Also, you can charge your Eufy security cameras with the 5V/ 1A charger if it’s the only available choice. But this power output is relatively insufficient, increasing the total charging time to about double the standard 5V/ 2A charger.
When it comes to the portable charger power bank, you’ll certainly come across the 9V/ 2A and 5V/1A as well. But how long these power banks will take to charge your Eufy camera is about the same time their equivalent adapter chargers on a wall outlet will take.
