Filters, coils, and fins of an air conditioner maintenance to ensure that the unit runs powerfully and efficiently during its years of service. The neglect of necessary maintenance ensures that air conditioning performance decreases steadily while energy consumption increases gradually.
The main maintenance task to ensure the efficiency of your air conditioner is to replace or clean your filters regularly. Closed, dirty filters block normal airflow and significantly reduce system efficiency. Obstructed with normal airflow, Air bypassing the filter can directly carry dirt into the evaporator coil and impair the heat absorbing capacity of the coil. Replacing a dirty clogged filter with a clean filter can reduce the energy consumption of your air conditioner by 5 percent to 15 percent. Filters are generally placed somewhere along the length of the return pipe for central air conditioners. Common filter sites are located in walls, ceilings, furnaces or air conditioning. Air conditioners in the room have a filter mounted in
the grill facing the room.
Some filter types are reusable; others need to be replaced. They are existing in a range of different types and efficiencies. Clean or replace the filter or filter of your air conditioning system during the cooling period each month or two.
The evaporator coil and condenser coil of the air conditioner collect dirt during their months and years of service. A clean filter escapes a quick soiling of the evaporator coil. However, in time the evaporator coil collects dirt. This dirt reduces the flow of air and isolates the coil, reducing its heat absorption ability. Check your evaporator spool every year to avoid this problem and clean it as needed.
Outdoor condenser coils can also get very dirty if the outdoor environment is dusty or if the foliage is nearby. You can easily see the condenser spool and see if dirt collects on its fins.
Starting of each cooling season, inspect the seal between those air
conditioner and the window frame to make sure that the metal case of the unit is in contact. Humidity can damage the seal and allow cool air to escape from your home.
